Have the Firm Conviction That You Are Pure Consciousness - Understanding Our True Self - Part 20

The Immutable Self — The Illusion of Identification — The Recognition of Pure Consciousness — Living as Pure Consciousness — A Continuous Awakening

The Immutable Self

Amidst the ever-changing flow of thoughts, emotions, feelings, and experiences, one aspect of your existence remains unchanging: Awareness. This awareness, the silent observer of all that arises and fades, is your true Self—pure Consciousness. To grasp this truth requires more than intellectual understanding; it demands a firm conviction that transcends doubt and habitual identification with the body, mind, and soul.

The Illusion of Identification

From birth, we are conditioned to identify with labels—our name, gender, nationality, and roles. This identification creates a fragmented sense of self, tethering us to the transient. The mind, in its restless nature, reinforces these identifications, convincing us that we are the thinker of thoughts, the feeler of feelings/emotions, and the doer of actions. Yet, when observed closely, all these facets reveal themselves as impermanent phenomena occurring within the vast space of awareness.

The Recognition of Pure Consciousness

To realize your essence as pure Consciousness, begin by turning inward. Notice the stillness beneath the noise, the spaciousness that allows all experiences to unfold. This is not something you can attain, for it is already present. It is the foundation of your being, untouched by the fluctuations of the mind and body.

This recognition grows stronger with consistent practice. Meditation, self-inquiry, and awarefulness (mindfulness) reveal the gap between your true Self and the transient world of form. When you remain as awareness, disidentified from thoughts, feelings and emotions, the conviction naturally arises:

"I am not the changing; I am the changeless."

Living as Pure Consciousness

Holding this conviction transforms the way you perceive and engage with the world.

Challenges no longer shake your core, for you know that your essence is untouchable. Joy and sorrow are seen as waves rising and falling in the ocean of being, unable to disturb its depth. This clarity brings freedom—a freedom not from life but in life, where every experience is embraced without attachment or resistance.

A Continuous Awakening

This conviction is not a final destination, but a continuous awakening. Life will test this understanding with moments of doubt and re-identification. These tests are not setbacks, but opportunities to deepen your awareness. Each time you return to the realization of your true Self, the conviction becomes firmer, like a tree whose roots grow stronger with each storm it weathers.

You are not the body, not the mind, not the roles you play. You are the awareness in which all these arise and fade. Have the firm conviction that you are pure Consciousness, and rest in the infinite peace that this understanding brings.
